AUSTIN, Texas (AP) — The University of Texas will pay about $200,000 to the consultant hired to review academic support services for athletes, a move ordered by the school president after the school had begun investigating allegations of misconduct within the men's basketball program.
Consultant Gene Marsh had already been hired to look into the basketball program when President Greg Fenves announced the larger inquiry into all student services for athletes, including admissions, advising and tutoring.
The review began June 15. Texas said the finances could change as Marsh develops a more detailed framework of his review. Fenves said he hopes to get a report from Marsh by the end of the year.
Marsh was a member of the NCAA infractions committee from 1999-2008.
