CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) — The lawyer for a North Charleston police officer charged with murder says state police missed two bullets found by private investigators at the shooting scene two weeks later.
In a court filing obtained by The Post and Courier of Charleston (http://bit.ly/1Tcgi3n ), Michael Slager's lawyer asks a judge to require the State Law Enforcement Division to preserve all its evidence in the case.
Along with the bullets, attorney Andy Savage says SLED agents also deleted a three-dimensional scan of the scene because it wasn't done properly. Savage says with Slager's freedom on the line, all evidence must be saved.
SLED and prosecutors told the newspaper they can't comment on the ongoing investigation.
Slager was charged with murder after shooting an unarmed man running from a North Charleston traffic stop in April.
