WASHINGTON (AP) — One economist says the latest jobs report is consistent with what he calls a "two-steps-forward, one-step-back expansion" of the U.S. economy. Unemployment fell to a seven-year low of 5.3 percent as the economy added 223,000 jobs last month. But the report also finds that a wave of people stopped looking for work. The proportion of Americans either working or looking for work has now reached a 38-year low.

WASHINGTON (AP) — The Pentagon says a senior Islamic State leader responsible for moving fighters and weapons from Libya to Syria has been killed in a coalition airstrike. Tariq bin Tahar al-'Awni al-Harzi was a Tunisian. There are no reports of any civilian casualties.

MARYVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — An official in eastern Tennessee says smoke has stopped rising from the site where a CSX train car derailed and caught fire, forcing the evacuation of thousands of residents. Earlier, officials said firefighters had been unable to get close to the site because of the heat. The accident happened in Maryville, just southwest of Knoxville.

BOSTON (AP) — Authorities have released a computer-generated image of a young girl found dead last week inside a plastic bag along a Boston Harbor shoreline. Officials believe the brown-haired, brown-eyed girl was about 4 years old. Her body was found June 25 inside a bag that also contained a black and white zebra-print blanket.

HONOLULU (AP) — Officials say federal agents last month intercepted a package mailed to Hawaii from Southern California containing a toaster oven. Hidden inside the four-slice toaster, was 6 pounds of crystal meth. Two people who allegedly received the package have pleaded not guilty.
