AUGUSTA, Ga. (AP) — The president of Georgia Southern University in Statesboro has been named the sole finalist to lead Georgia Regents University in Augusta.
University System of Georgia Chancellor Hank Huckaby said in a statement that GSU President Brooks Keel has been named as the finalist to serve as GSU president. The University System of Georgia Board of Regents is expected to vote on Keel's selection during a meeting on July 8.
Officials say Keel began as Georgia Southern's president in 2010 and focused on expanding undergraduate and graduate programs. Officials say the university launched an engineering and information technology college and a STEM education institute during Keel's tenure.
Georgia Regents University President Ricardo Azziz earlier this year announced that he was stepping down from the position on June 30.
