SEATTLE (AP) — The Rev. William J. Sullivan, who was Seattle University's longest-serving president between 1976 and 1996, has died. He was 84.
Seattle University said he died Wednesday at a Jesuit care center outside of Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
The Jesuit priest is credited with building the modern campus in Seattle, bringing the law school to campus, building the Chapel of St. Ignatius and founding the School of Theology and Ministry, among other accomplishments.
He also served for 12 years as the school's chancellor before retiring in 2009 and returning to the Wisconsin Province of Jesuits.
