MALDEN, Mass. (AP) — A Massachusetts woman has been charged with stabbing her mother to death inside an apartment.
Twenty-four-year-old Sharlyn Savain, of Malden, pleaded not guilty to murder while being arraigned Tuesday in Malden District Court. She was ordered held without bail.
Savain is accused of killing her 58-year-old mother, Marie Luxama, on Monday. Police responding to a request for a well-being check found Luxama with stab wounds. She died at a hospital.
Police Chief Kevin Molis calls the slaying a "terrible act of domestic violence."
Savain's lawyer says her mental competency will be evaluated. She is due back in court July 6.
Luxama's landlord told police that Savain told him she killed her mother and was going to kill him, too.
