MIAMI (AP) — Former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush is casting himself as the true Washington outsider in the crowded field of GOP presidential hopefuls. Bush launched his bid today to win his party's nomination. In a jab at Democratic favorite Hillary Rodham Clinton, Bush said "the presidency should not be passed on from one liberal to the next." In a swipe at other Republicans, Bush said the mess in Washington can't be cleaned up by "electing the people who either helped create it or have proven incapable of fixing it."
MANCHESTER, N.H. (AP) — Campaigning in New Hampshire, Hillary Rodham Clinton says Americans are not against success. She's countering criticism that her personal wealth undermines her populist campaign message. Clinton said her family's fortune is "secondary" to most voters.
CHICAGO (AP) — A storm sweeping across northern Illinois has prompted a tornado warning and forced the cancellation of hundreds of flights at Chicago's airports. In Texas, officials are making emergency plans because of a tropical disturbance in the Gulf of Mexico that is expected to bring heavy rain starting tomorrow.
MCKINNEY, Texas (AP) — Prosecutors have called in the Texas Rangers to investigate an incident in which a white police officer Is seen on video pushing a bikini-clad black teenage girl to the ground and brandishing his gun at other black teens. The June 5 incident in McKinney sparked national criticism and resulted in the resignation of the officer. The Texas Rangers are a division of the state police.
DOYLESTOWN, Pa. (AP) — A suburban Philadelphia man who sent a scratch-and-sniff birthday card laced with the deadly poison ricin (RY'-sin) to a romantic rival has been sentenced to 20 to 40 years in prison. The Philadelphia Inquirer reports that 20-year-old Nicholas Helman wept as he said goodbye to his family after being sentenced today. Prosecutors say a card laced with ricin was placed in the mailbox of a man dating his ex-girlfriend. The man wasn't injured.
