GUNTOWN, Miss. (AP) — The Lee County School Board has awarded a bid for construction of a new building on the site of an existing one at Guntown Middle School.
Two buildings in the middle of campus will be demolished to make way for a courtyard.
The work will cost over $2 million. Superintendent Jimmy Weeks says the bid was $500,000 less than what was budgeted.
The Northeast Mississippi Daily Journal reports (http://bit.ly/1L3nM46 ) the Guntown building will have 10 classrooms.
Its exterior will be designed to match an old one that had been on the Mississippi Landmark Building list. It will have an art deco front, corner windows and decorative brick work. That building needed to be replaced because of mold and termite damage.
The new building is to be finished by July 2016.
