SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — A northern Utah man accused of wanting to kill police officers and blow up a police station to trigger an uprising against the government is set to be sentenced today. John Huggins faces up to 10 years in federal prison after he pleaded guilty in a deal with prosecutors. He was arrested last July after police received a tip that Huggins talked about assassinating two officers and blowing up the police station in his hometown of Tremonton, 75 miles north of Salt Lake City.
SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Prosecutors have charged a Utah State Prison inmate with homicide in the death of another prisoner. Two felony charges are filed against 26-year-old Samuel Jacob Wise including assault by a prisoner in the death of 25-year-old prisoner Christopher Lucas last September 13. The Salt Lake Tribune reports the charges say Wise was upset Lucas in the neighboring cell was making too much noise in the morning so he attacked him when the cell doors opened.
CEDAR CITY, Utah (AP) — Police say a man who died after falling while rock climbing in Cedar City was 19-year-old Thomas Harley Rueben Christensen. Cedar City Police said earlier this week that Christensen was hiking Monday with two friends on a mountainside about 200 feet above State Route 14 when he fell.
MIDWAY, Utah (AP) — Detectives say a Utah man violated the state's commercial terrorism statute when he stole a rival tourism business' brochures. Investigators told the Deseret News that Scott Eckersly went to the Zermatt Resort & Spa in Midway four times in the past year where he disposed of a competitor's free brochures replacing them with his own. They didn't describe the business.
