McKINNEY, Texas (AP) — A Texas police chief says the officer who has drawn national attention with his rough handling of a bikini-clad 15-year-old at a pool party "came into the call out of control." Officer David Eric Caseolt, who was also seen on a viral video pointing his gun at two teens, resigned today. Charges filed against a teen accused of interfering with an officer and evading arrest have been dropped.
LOS ANGELES (AP) — The Los Angeles Police Commission says police officials will have to decide the appropriate discipline for policy violations in the close-range fatal shooting of a black man last year. Ezell Ford's mother told the commission that the officers were angry because Ford walked away. She says he had mental illness that caused him to have the mental process of a child.
CHICAGO (AP) — A court hearing in Chicago for Dennis Hastert hasn't shed any more light on the secret that Hastert was allegedly trying to conceal, in a scheme to pay $3.5 million in hush money. The former House speaker today pleaded not guilty to charges of violating banking rules and lying to the FBI. Hastert will remain free, but he's surrendered his passport, and he's been told not to have any contact with victims or witnesses in the case. The accusations that emerged two weeks ago led to questions about possible past sexual abuse by the man who was once second in line to the presidency.
SEOUL, South Korea (AP) — South Korea believes its MERS virus outbreak may have peaked, and experts say the next several days will be critical to determining whether the government's belated efforts are working. Middle East Respiratory Syndrome disease has killed nine people and infected more than 100 in the country. It was introduced to South Korea last month by a 68-year-old man who had traveled to Saudi Arabia and other nearby countries.
NEW YORK (AP) — Chris Heston has pitched the first no-hitter in the majors this season in his 13th career start, leading the San Francisco Giants over the New York Mets 5-0 tonight. The rookie allowed three baserunners — all on hit batters. He also had a two-run single for his first big league RBIs and finished with two more hits than the Mets.
