PROVO, Utah (AP) — For years, Greg Soter dreamed of finding a way to preserve the old, empty Mormon chapel in Provo. Now the building that once housed meetings of faithful locals holds 15 high-end, one-bedroom apartments.
The Daily Herald reports (http://bit.ly/1GwNBeT ) that Soter kept working on the project even though he had to take some time off to recover after being injured in an airplane crash.
During his work, Soter found that members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints left behind trinkets, a large granite rock and a tower room that served as a sacred place for special prayers usually reserved for LDS temples.
Soter says that he wanted to preserve the exterior of the building but tried to put in apartments that would be at home in Manhattan or San Francisco.
