DENVER (AP) — The Colorado Rockies have placed reliever Rafael Betancourt on the 15-day disabled list with what the team called vertigo symptoms.

Colorado recalled right-hander David Hale from Triple-A Albuquerque to take Betancourt's spot on the roster. He will start Monday night against St. Louis.

Betancourt said he's been dealing with a sinus infection for the last few weeks and hasn't been able to shake it. He's struggled in his last two outings, surrendering seven runs in 1 2-3 innings.

The right-hander approached manager Walt Weiss over the weekend and told Weiss that he needed a break to get healthy.

Betancourt said there's nothing wrong with his arm. The 40-year-old had Tommy John surgery in September 2013 and spent the next season getting back up to speed in the minor leagues.
