LAS VEGAS (AP) — The annual number of abortions in Nevada has decreased since 2010, but lawmakers in this historically pro-abortion rights state have nothing to do with it. An Associated Press survey found that there were 22 percent fewer abortions in the state in 2013 compared to 2010. Some cite the new federal health law increasing financial access to birth control for lowering the number of unintended pregnancies.
PHOENIX (AP) — Gripped by a prolonged drought, Nevada faces possible cuts to its main water supply in the next 18 months. Lake Mead lake has been dipping for years and federal officials say it could drop low enough by 2017 that it would trigger supply cuts to Arizona and Nevada.
RENO, Nev. (AP) — A runaway slave who joined the Union Army during the Civil War and lost a leg after being wounded in battle has finally received recognition, nearly 100 years after he died in Nevada. Historians say they decided to hold a military funeral for Pvt. Scott Carnal because it's unlikely he received any recognition after his 1917 death in Dayton, south of Reno.
RENO, Nev. (AP) — Authorities say no one was hurt after a small airplane made an emergency landing on Interstate 80. KOLO-TV reports that the Nevada Highway Patrol says the plane was experiencing engine trouble and that the FAA will assist in investigating the incident Saturday afternoon.
