PROVO, Utah (AP) — A mudslide that fire officials say was likely caused by a garden hose significantly damaged a Provo house that was under construction.
Provo Fire Department Battalion Chief Debby Honeycutt says the construction workers had just climbed down from the roof on Saturday afternoon when mud slid down the hill to the east.
She says the mud poured over the retaining wall entered the house, causing the foundation to slide forward and destroying the frame.
Initial estimates placed the damage between $80,000 and $100,000.
Provo Fire Marshal Lynn Schofield says no other homes were at risk Saturday.
He said a preliminary investigation showed that the mudslide was likely cause by a hose left on at a house up the hill.
