ROSENBERG, Texas (AP) — The National Weather Service says it expects the Colorado River in Wharton, Texas, and the San Jacinto River near Houston to recede below flood stage sometime today despite rain that's been falling on and off since Memorial Day weekend in parts of the state. At least 31 people have been killed in the storms that hit Texas and Oklahoma. Twenty-seven of the deaths have been in Texas.
DOVER, Del. (AP) — Beau Biden, son of Vice President Joe Biden, has died of brain cancer, less than two years after he was diagnosed. He was 46. President and Mrs. Obama say they're grieving with the Biden family. Flags are being flown at half-staff in his home state of Delaware. Beau Biden was a former state attorney general and planned to run for governor.
SINGAPORE (AP) — Security is tighter today at the site of a major international conference in Singapore after a shootout nearby. Police in Singapore fatally shot one man and detained two others when they tried to crash a nearby roadblock. Substances believed to be drugs were found on one of the two people detained. U.S. Secretary of Defense Ash Carter and delegates from dozens of countries are attending the conference.
EL-ARISH, Egypt (AP) — Security officials in Egypt say suspected Islamic militants have blown up a natural gas pipeline outside el-Arish, the provincial capital of North Sinai. The officials say authorities stopped the flow of the gas to extinguish the fire after the blast early today. No group immediately claimed the attack which is similar to those of a jihadi group pledged to the Islamic State militants.
WASHINGTON (AP) — Chances appear slim for preventing key Patriot Act anti-terror provisions, including bulk collection of Americans' phone records from expiring at midnight. The Senate means to try today in an unusual Sunday session, but Kentucky republican Senator and presidential hopeful Rand Paul plans to stand in the way. He opposes the data collection.
