DESOTO, Texas (AP) — The death toll in Texas from heavy rains has reached three. Police in the Dallas suburb of DeSoto say an officer and a search dog found the bodies of a 14-year-old boy and his dog in a storm drain near the boy's home. The boys' family had reported him missing about 10 p.m. Sunday after one of his two dogs showed up alone at the house, wet and extremely muddy.

NEW YORK (AP) — The Massachusetts Port Authority says an anonymous threat made against a Paris-to-Boston airliner has been deemed not credible. Anonymous telephone threats were made today against five other international flights to airports in New York and New Jersey. The FBI says in one instance U.S. military jets escorted an Air France flight into New York City. Officials say none of the threats appeared to be credible.

GOLETA, Calif. (AP) — Officials from Plains All American Pipeline say they hope the broken section of a pipeline that spilled oil along the California Coast can be removed for investigation by tomorrow. The company also has lowered its estimate of the amount of oil that may have spilled to a worst-case of 101,000 gallons. Plains All American is still measuring the spill as it cleans up along the coastline and recovers oil from the pipeline. Officials say one sea lion, nine pelicans and untold numbers of fish have been killed.

LAWRENCE, Kan. (AP) — Veterinarians and emergency officials have been working to save animals after a fire broke out at a Kansas pet store. Pet World in Lawrence was closed when the fire started about noon today. The Lawrence Journal World reports that rescue workers brought out 20 to 30 tarantulas, a large python and other reptiles. Some rats, a few hamsters and gerbils stored in a separate structure were also rescued. Fire officials say other animals died in the fire, but it's unclear how many.

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (AP) — Police say three children have been injured after a waterspout came ashore on a Fort Lauderdale beach and sent an inflatable bounce house flying into the air, above nearby palm trees, across a parking lot and over four lanes of traffic. Police say the three children appeared to have fallen out when the bounce house first flipped over. They were alert and conscious when they were taken to a hospital.
