NEW YORK (AP) — Hundreds of mourners gathered at a New York City funeral home to say goodbye to a college dean killed in this month's Amtrak crash in Philadelphia.

Derrick Griffith was one of eight passengers killed when the train derailed on May 12.

The Daily News reports (http://nydn.us/1FF06D0 ) that Griffith's funeral in the Bronx on Friday drew about 500 mourners.

Griffith was the dean of student affairs at Medgar Evers College in Brooklyn.

Professor Elaine Reid called Griffith's death "a terrible loss." She said everyone at the college was distraught.

Members of Griffith's Phi Beta Sigma fraternity took turns placing white flowers on his casket ahead of the two-hour religious service.
