SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Utah Supreme Court Justice Jill Parrish has been confirmed as a federal judge for the state district.

The U.S. Senate voted unanimously Thursday to confirm Parrish, who was nominated for the position in September.

Sen. Orrin Hatch, a former chairman of the Judiciary Committee, says Parrish's confirmation is a great honor for Utah.

Parrish will replace Judge Dee Benson, who has taken senior status and limited his caseload.

Parrish is an Ogden native. She attended Yale Law School, practiced litigation at a Salt Lake City law firm and served as an assistant U.S. attorney.
