CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) — Authorities say a 77-year-old inmate in prison for first-degree murder has died.

The Nevada Department of Corrections said Thursday that Raymond Gillen died at the Carson Tahoe Hospital in Carson City after being transferred from the Northern Nevada Correctional Center's regional medical facility.

The agency says Gillen had been serving a sentence of life without parole for a conviction stemming from Nye County.

The agency says a coroner from the Carson City Sheriff's Office will conduct an autopsy.
