LAS VEGAS (AP) — A lawyer entered a not-guilty plea Tuesday before a local judge on behalf of the brother of U.S. Sen. Harry Reid, and he obtained a July trial date for misdemeanor driving under the influence, battery, weapons and seatbelt charges.
Larry Joe Reid, 73, didn't appear for the brief hearing before Boulder City Justice of the Peace Victor Miller, defense attorney David Brown said.
The judge is also scheduled to decide July 14 if a charge of battery on a police officer should advance to state court for trial.
Reid was arrested at gunpoint about mid-day Feb. 2 after a Nevada Highway Patrol trooper reported finding him sitting in his SUV on a U.S. 95 median near Searchlight.
An arrest report alleges that Reid punched the trooper and tried to drive away with the trooper clinging to the side of the vehicle.
The trooper eventually drew his handgun and ordered Reid to stop.
A gun was later found underneath Reid's center console, which led to the weapons charge because Reid had been drinking.
