RENO, Nev. (AP) — SMC Construction of Reno is suing the owners of the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Lake Tahoe for failing to pay more than $6 million for work to finish the property before its Jan. 28 grand opening.
The Reno Gazette-Journal (http://on.rgj.com/1HqtoEG) reports SMC wants $6.15 million it says came due in January and February in the lawsuit filed in Douglas County District Court. The company says demands to finish the hotel required overtime and other costs that nearly doubled the $9.65 million budget.
The Hard Rock Hotel's owner Neva One LLC says in a statement the issue involves change orders and the company requires backup documentation. Co-owner David Park told the newspaper that he and his brother are hesitant to comment about the lawsuit publicly because of legal considerations.
