HOUSTON (AP) — The last defendant in a nearly $7 million timeshare resale scam that bilked about 1,000 people has been convicted in Houston.
Federal prosecutors say 64-year-old James Assi Jariv of Las Vegas, Nevada, entered a guilty plea Monday. He was convicted of conspiracies to commit wire/mail/telemarketing fraud.
His wife, ex-wife, 27-year-old son and four others have all previously pleaded guilty for their roles in the scheme.
The telemarketing scheme spanning nearly five years involved groups known as The Jariv Companies that were registered in various states, including Texas. Prosecutors say timeshare unit owners in the U.S. and Canada paid advance fees after being promised buyers that did not exist.
Jariv is set to be sentenced in July. The co-defendants are set to be sentenced in August.
