LAS VEGAS (AP) — A severe thunderstorm that brought with it pounding rain and hail as large as a quarter is leaving Las Vegas.
National Weather Service meteorologist Nathan Foster said Monday the unusually wet May weather represented the latest in several low-pressure systems moving up from the Pacific Ocean bringing colder temperatures and scattered showers.
Foster says the Las Vegas-area's early Monday storm brought more than an inch and a quarter of rain to the Summerlin area northwest of Las Vegas. At McCarran International Airport, rain amounted to less than one-tenth of an inch. The hail and showers stuck close to the mountains with much of it near the Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area.
Colder weather is expected to continue with a chance of showers again Friday.
