Sometimes what initially seems like the most challenging things in your life turn out to be the best things, which is what ultimately lead Candy Kerr and Corey Carlson to create the company they co-own, Concrete Color and Design in Sandy.
After it became clear things weren't going to work out at the concrete design company where they had been working together for 10 years, these two friends and colleagues decided to go into business together. They opened Concrete Color and Design in March 2000 and haven't looked back. It was hard going, but they bootstrapped the business, and built it up one concrete job at a time. Over time they gained a reputation for creating high-quality and creative finished product with a dedication to complete customer satisfaction.
One of the lines really taking off at Concrete Color and Design is the Acid Stain line. Candy says this is because each piece of concrete is chemically unique so the acid reacts in slightly different ways each time. It's a great way to get a one-of-a-kind look to your concrete. Not to mention, many people also use it as a do-it-yourself product, which is an important value in the Utah market.
Today Concrete Color and Design has sold their colored concrete in 42 of the 50 states and they're expanding internationally. This design work has taken off in other markets, and it continues to gain traction in Utah. They've developed a strong relationship with contractors and know their customers by name, which is one reason they've seen consistent growth year over year.
Concrete Color and Design has grown to include a staff of four, including family who love the business as much as the owners. Their talented staff is an important reason for their success, as well as the focus on service.
