RICHMOND, Va. (AP) — Virginia Commonwealth University is seeking state approval to offer a nursing doctoral program with a primary focus on medical safety.
The State Council of Higher Education for Virginia is scheduled to consider the proposal on Tuesday at its regular meeting at Hampden-Sydney College.
The council says the proposed doctor of nursing practice program would have 10 new courses designed by VCU. The courses integrate medical safety information, technology and current nursing practices.
If approved, the council says VCU would be the first institution in the country to offer such a program.
