SYRACUSE, Utah (AP) — A $3,000 reward is being offered for information leading to the conviction of those responsible for the death of a registered thoroughbred mare in Davis County.
The Humane Society of Utah says it's offering the reward because it appears the death was an "intentional act of animal violence" and it wants those responsible to be held accountable.
The 6-year-old horse named Lady Antebellum was found dead in her 80-acre pasture in Syracuse, about 25 miles north of Salt Lake City.
Police say the owner last saw the mare alive late Wednesday afternoon and they think the animal died sometime Thursday afternoon.
The humane society says the wound was described as a puncture wound shaped like an "X'' behind the horse's front leg, and it may have been caused by an arrow.
The mare is valued at over $10,000.
