ST. AUGUSTINE BEACH, Fla. (AP) — Sheriff's deputies were involved in two officer-involved shootings in one week that left one man dead and another in critical condition.
On Thursday, St. Johns County deputies shot 53-year-old Carey Lloyd Martin in St. Augustine Beach, about 50 miles southeast of Jacksonville, after a woman called in a report that the man was suicidal.
The St. Augustine Record reports (http://bit.ly/1Gd2ZeS ) that deputies say Martin approached the doorway of a home and fired multiple shots from a rifle.
The St. Johns County Sheriff's Office says the officers fired multiple shots at Martin, who survived and was in critical condition.
On Monday two deputies fatally shot 28-year-old Justin Way who they say was suicidal and armed with a knife.
Authorities say Way's girlfriend had called 911 asking for help with his suicidal threats.
