KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — The Royals selected the contract of veteran right-hander Joe Blanton from Triple-A Omaha and optioned reliever Aaron Brooks to the same club before Saturday night's game against the Yankees.
To make room on the roster, the Royals also recalled left-hander Brian Flynn from Omaha and placed him on the 60-day disabled list with a torn muscle in the back of his shoulder.
Flynn was barely beaten out for a job in the Royals bullpen in spring training.
The 34-year-old Blanton last pitched in the majors with the Angels in 2013. He signed a minor league deal with Kansas City and made seven starts, going 3-2 with a 3.89 ERA.
Brooks pitched a scoreless inning against the Yankees Friday night.
