BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) — A search committee is recommending six finalists to serve as president of Southern University and chancellor of the Southern system.
The committee plans to interview the six on May 28, and plans to recommend three names to the university's board of supervisors to name a new leader by July 1.
Finalists include Southern University Shreveport Chancellor Ray Belton, Southern University New Orleans Chancellor Victor Ukpolo, Chicago Family Health Center President and CEO Barrett Hatches, former Tuskegee University President Gilbert Rochon, White House Initiative on Historically Black Colleges and Universities Deputy Director Ivory Toldson and former Savannah State University President Earl Yarbrough Sr.
Southern supervisors declined to renew the contract of four-year President Ron Mason. Earlier this week, he was named president of the University of the District of Columbia.
