SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — A steelworker has died after falling 20 feet from a ladder at a Salt Lake City construction site.
52-year-old Richard "Richie" Pierce died from his injuries Tuesday afternoon after falling Monday morning.
Spokesman for Layton Construction, Alan Rindlisbacher, says there were no eyewitnesses to Pierce's fall, although close to 190 construction workers are employed at the Utah Performing Arts Center site.
The spokesman says Pierce was a steelworker for subcontractor SME Steel and had at least 30 years of work experience in the industry.
The company has started an internal investigation and The Utah Occupational and Health Administration launched an inquiry into Pierce's death Tuesday.
