FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (AP) — A Ft. Lauderdale man is planning on making a 400-mile journey along the coast of Costa Rica to raise money for a cancer research foundation based in Hilton Head Island, South Carolina.

Multiple news outlets report Charlie Howden says he plans to set off Monday. Howden says he plans to paddleboard 15 to 20 miles a day over a two week span to Costa Rica to raise awareness for the William Guy Forbeck Research Foundation based in Hilton Head.

Howden was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in August 2013. He says he has been going through chemotherapy treatments and paddles about three times a week in preparation for the trip.
