CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) — State foresters are trying to reduce wildfire risks and improve water quality in forest areas in Clear Creek. The Nevada Appeal reports that the Nevada Division of Forestry is thinning forests in the area and throughout Northern Nevada as part of a fuels reduction project. The Clear Creek area provides a scenic route to Lake Tahoe and it is a perennial tributary with a continual flow year-round.

BECKLEY, W.Va. (AP) — Federal prosecutors are opposing former Massey Energy CEO Don Blankenship's request to go home to Las Vegas for Memorial Day. A prosecution motion filed yesterday in West Virginia says Blankenship owns homes in several states. But there's little evidence of his ties to Las Vegas, other than his claiming residency there. Blankenship is charged with conspiring to violate safety standards at Upper Big Branch, a former Massey mine where an explosion killed 29 men in 2010.

LAS VEGAS (AP) — North Las Vegas police are asking the FBI to take over an investigation of how Mayor John Lee obtained images on his computer that he suspected showed child pornography. Police decided to seek federal help after reviewing how detectives handled Lee's request last October to clear images from his iPad. Lee didn't respond to messages from The Associated Press.

NEW YORK (AP) — Jenny from the Block is heading to Sin City. The pop star announced last night on "American Idol" that she's heading to Las Vegas next year for a residency at the Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino. Jennifer Lopez's stint at the AXIS Theater will begin January 20.
