WASHINGTON (AP) — Senate Democrats have dealt President Barack Obama a stinging setback on trade by blocking efforts to begin full-blown debate on his initiatives. All but one Senate Democrat defied the president today by voting to prevent consideration of his request for "fast track" trade authority. Obama's supporters say they will try again, possibly starting in the House. But the vote highlighted the deep divide between Obama and the many congressional Democrats who say trade deals hurt U.S. jobs.

NEW YORK (AP) — The lawyer who investigated the New England Patriots says he found direct, not just circumstantial, evidence to show that quarterback Tom Brady knew about employees deflating footballs. Ted Wells said on a conference call today that his findings would have been enough to convince a jury in a civil trial. Wells released his report last Wednesday, asserting it was "more probable than not" that Brady "was at least generally aware" of plans by two team employees to prepare the balls to his liking. Brady's agent says investigators found no hard evidence of that.

ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) — Police say the investigation into yesterday's shooting near Orlando, Florida, involving George Zimmerman could take time. They say they've recovered a handgun from Zimmerman, and two guns from a man who's accused of shooting at Zimmerman while both were driving. Police haven't said what led to the shooting, but a lawyer for the other man calls it a "good, old-fashioned self-defense case." Zimmerman suffered minor injuries from flying glass and debris.

ATLANTA (AP) — Hillary Rodham Clinton is planning her first visit to South Carolina since she announced her second White House bid. South Carolina hosts the first primary in the South next year. And it's important for Democrats because of the large number of black voters. In 2008, Clinton initially led Barack Obama in early South Carolina polls, but many African-Americans shifted their support to Obama after he won in Iowa. And he went on to defeat Clinton 55 percent to 27 percent.

FORT WORTH, Texas (AP) — After more than 75 years of flying, the end is near for US Airways. American Airlines plans to shut down the carrier over a 90-day stretch that could begin as soon as July, which would mean a final departure around October. American is hoping to avoid the technological glitches and massive flight delays that plagued United Airlines after it abruptly switched to Continental's computer systems in 2012. US Airways flights will slowly disappear and be replaced by American flights in a single reservations system.
