CHICAGO (AP) — The head of President Barack Obama's foundation says support from across Illinois made Chicago stand out as a site for the Obama Library.
The Obama Foundation announced Tuesday that Chicago's South Side will be home to the library.
Obama Foundation Chairman Marty Nesbitt said at a Tuesday afternoon news conference that it was support from not only the metro area but across the state — like Springfield — that made Chicago "worth pursuing." Sites in New York and Hawaii also were in contention.
One remaining question is how the foundation will select between two properties near the University of Chicago campus, Washington Park or Jackson Park. Nesbitt says that choice will be made in the next six to nine months. He says the library should open in 2020 or 2021.
