LEAVITTSBURG, Ohio (AP) — Authorities in Ohio say a 15-year-old boy shot in the face by a cousin who said he didn't know the gun was loaded has died.
Warren Township Police Chief Don Bishop says 15-year-old Jesse Hayes died Monday. He was shot Saturday night near Leavittsburg in Trumbull County.
Bishop says the 28-year-old cousin told police he had been talking with Jesse about hunting and had a few beers. He was showing the boy a new shotgun when he pointed it at Jesse and pulled the trigger. He told police he didn't think it was loaded.
Bishop says Jesse was from the Cleveland area and had been visiting his family Saturday.
Authorities are investigating the shooting. No charges have been filed.
