BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) — The University of Alabama at Birmingham hospital has been recognized as a leader in stroke treatment.
UAB officials said in a statement Monday that the Joint Commission along with the American Heart Association and the American Stroke Association has named the university's hospital a comprehensive stroke center.
Professor in the school's department of neurology David Standaert says the designation means the facility is poised to offer patients cutting edge stroke care. Officials say the hospital was recognized for offering 24-hour treatment, staff who have unique training and more.
Officials say UAB Hospital treats more than 1,100 strokes annually.
