COEUR d'ALENE, Idaho (AP) — St. Vincent de Paul of North Idaho is working with a local group to start a wellness program for veterans with a recent private grant award of $20,000.
The Coeur d'Alene Press reports (http://bit.ly/1Fg97nI) Shawn Burke, veteran and founder of Wellness Incentive to Health Performance in Riverstone, is using the funds to buy exercise equipment and create fitness regimens for those enrolled in St. Vincent's veteran programs.
Six veterans are currently in the program, with 60 on the waiting list. Burke says through working with a nonprofit like St. Vincent, the group hopes to bring in donations to be able to serve more veterans at a time.
Funds came from the Lynne Ruffin-Smith Charitable Foundation, whose founder was also a veteran.
