WEST POINT, N.Y. (AP) — A busy week of pomp and parades is planned at West Point in preparation for graduation later this month.

About 1,000 cadets will graduate from the U.S. Military Academy on Saturday, May 23. Graduation week events kick off May 19 with a ceremony honoring distinguished graduates and continue two days later with demonstrations by the cadets' parachute and drill teams.

The graduation parade will be held May 22. Senior cadets will be commissioned as second lieutenants in the Army when they receive their diplomas during graduation exercises the following Saturday morning.
