SPRINGFIELD, Va. (AP) — A Virginia company says it has recalled packages of soybean sprouts and mung bean sprouts over potential listeria contamination.
Springfield-based Good Seed Inc. says the recall involves sprouts distributed to retail stores in Virginia, Maryland, New Jersey and North Carolina.
A state lab discovered the contamination during an analysis of sprout samples.
The company says the sprouts come in 1- to 10-pound bags and were produced on or after April 1. They can be returned to the place of sale for a full refund.
Listeria can cause serious illness and even death in groups such as children, the frail and the elderly. Healthy people may suffer flu-like symptoms, such as high fever, headache, nausea and diarrhea.
