HATTIESBURG, Miss. (AP) — Shots rang out during a routine traffic stop in Hattiesburg, Mississippi, leaving two officers dead and two suspects on the run. Police say the whereabouts of the suspects are still unknown. They're identified as 26-year-old Curtis Banks and his 29-year-old brother, Marvin Banks. Officials say the officers who died were 34-year-old Benjamin Deen and 25-year-old Liquori Tate.
BERLIN (AP) — Police are working to identify several adults whose bodies were found outside and in a house in northern Switzerland near the German border. Officials say the bodies were found after shots were heard. The circumstances of and possible motive for the shootings remain unclear.
CISCO, Texas (AP) — Multiple tornadoes that tore through North Texas have killed one person and left others unaccounted for in a sparsely populated farming and ranching area. Heavy rain has hindered authorities' efforts to go house to house to assess the damage. Storms also brought heavy rain and quarter-sized hail to parts of southwest Oklahoma yesterday. Forecasters say snow is still possible in the Nebraska panhandle, South Dakota and other parts of the Plains.
NORTH MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (AP) — Tropical Storm Ana is approaching the coast of the Carolina's and getting a bit weaker as it does. Forecasters warn of big surf and riptides, but say the storm will lose more strength today as it turns inland. There could be some coastal flooding.
VATICAN CITY (AP) — Pope Francis Cuban has received Cuban President Raul Castro at the Vatican. The meeting is described as strictly private. Francis played a key role in the breakthrough between Washington and Havana aimed at restoring U.S.-Cuban diplomatic ties. The pope will stop in Cuba in September.
