LAS VEGAS (AP) — Police say a man awaiting sentencing after pleading guilty in a robbery case will face a murder charge in the death of a 27-year-old man during a fight-night confrontation last May outside a Las Vegas Strip resort.
Records show 23-year-old DeAngelo Mathews was being held Thursday at the Clark County jail in Las Vegas pending an initial court appearance in the May 3 death of DaShawn Antwon-Fouch Hawkins.
Authorities said Hawkins died of a head injury several hours after he was knocked unconscious and fell down in a 4:20 a.m. fight in the valet area of the Paris Las Vegas hotel-casino.
The slaying marred a busy night of events after Floyd Mayweather Jr. defeated Manny Pacquiao late May 2 in a welterweight championship fight at the MGM Grand Garden Arena.
