MINDEN, Nev. (AP) — A trial date has been set for the Gardnerville Ranchos man accused of killing his infant.

The (Gardnerville) Record-Courier reports (http://bit.ly/1FTPksP ) that 23-year-old Trent Lawrence Getty entered an innocent plea to a murder charge on Tuesday. His trial will begin January 4, 2016.

Getty has been in custody in Douglas County Jail since he was arrested on Jan. 10, the day his daughter Ava was taken off life support.

He brought the unresponsive infant to Carson Valley Medical Center three days prior to her death. He was questioned and released.

Prosecutors decided to try Lawrence for the crime after the Washoe County medical examiner testified in a preliminary hearing. The examiner said the baby died of blunt force trauma to the head, which she believes was caused by another person.
