RENO, Nev. (AP) — A winter weather advisory remains in effect until 11 a.m. Saturday north and west of Las Vegas, where up to 6 inches of snow is possible in the highest elevations around Red Rock Canyon and Death Valley National Park.
The advisory expired Friday morning in the Sierra, where a foot of snow fell Thursday on mountain ridges south of Lake Tahoe near Mammoth Lakes and more than 3 inches on Tahoe's west shore.
Less precipitation was reported as the pattern moved east, but the National Weather Service says it was enough to set some records.
The three-tenths of an inch of rain at Eureka Thursday was one-tenth more than the old record set in 2000. The 2 inches of snow at Elko early Friday smashed the old mark of .6 inch dating to 1979.
