LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) — A former Jefferson County middle school teacher has been sentenced to a total of 12 years in prison after admitting to having a sexual relationship with a 13-year-old boy.

Media report Jessica Boyers was sentenced Friday in Jefferson Circuit Court to 10 years after pleading guilty in March to charges of second-degree rape, second-degree sodomy and first-degree sex abuse. She was sentenced to 12 years on Thursday in Oldham Circuit Court on charges stemming from the same child. The sentences will run concurrently.

Boyers was arrested in April 2013 after police said she was found in her car with the boy in a local park. She soon resigned from her teaching position at Highland Middle School.

Boyers also is required to register as a sex offender.
