MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (AP) — West Virginia University has appointed Maryanne Reed as interim dean of the Eberly College of Arts and Sciences.

WVU said Friday that Reed will replace Rudy Almasy, who is retiring on June 30.

WVU is searching for a permanent dean for the College of Arts and Sciences. It is the university's largest academic unit with more than 400 faculty, 36 undergraduate majors and 32 graduate programs.

Reed has served since 2004 as dean of the WVU Reed College of Media and its predecessor, the Perley Isaac Reed School of Journalism. She also has been a faculty member since 1993.

Meanwhile, Reed has named associate dean Diana Martinelli to serve as acting dean of the College of Media.
