SPOKANE, Wash. (AP) — A man who was shot and wounded by a Spokane police officer remains in critical condition in a Spokane hospital.
Police say the man fired shots toward police late Wednesday night and was then shot.
No officers were hurt.
The Spokesman-Review reports that Police Chief Frank Straub says officers were called to a home by residents who said a man was suicidal, intoxicated and had a gun.
Police say the man fired shots at officers as they approached the home through an alley.
Straub says officers heard the man tell them to "just do it."
When there was a pause in the gunfire, an officer fired one shot, hitting the man.
