JUNEAU, Alaska (AP) — Rick Caulfield (CAW'-field) has been chosen to be the next chancellor of the University of Alaska Southeast.

Caulfield currently serves as provost at the university. He will replace John Pugh (pew), who plans to retire at the end of this month.

Caulfield's selection was announced by University of Alaska system president Pat Gamble on Wednesday and is in line with the recommendation of a selection committee.

Gamble, in a release, said Caulfield has been Pugh's right hand in advancement of the university system's southeast campuses and is well positioned to lead the University of Alaska Southeast.

According to the release, Caulfield has been a part of the University of Alaska system for more than 30 years.
