SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Authorities say a man identified as one of two attackers in a shooting at a Texas cartoon contest featuring images of the Prophet Muhammad was a former University of Utah student. The university said yesterday that Nadir Soofi was an undergraduate pre-medicine major enrolled from fall of 1998 to the summer of 2003. Utah court records show Soofi had several brushes with police during his time in Utah.

WINDOW ROCK, Ariz. (AP) — Final results from the Navajo Nation presidential election show Russell Begaye winning nearly 63 percent of the vote to defeat Joe Shirley Jr. The results are slightly different from election night and reflect counts from provisional ballots.

OREM, Utah (AP) — Officials say two students were injured in an accidental shooting just before their gun safety class began at Utah Valley University. The university says one student was showing a handgun to another student when it accidently fired, striking both of them. Neither injury was life-threatening.

WENDOVER, Utah (AP) — A 3-year-old girl was hit and killed by an SUV driven by family members at a gathering in Wendover on Monday night. Tooele County deputies identify the girl as Vanessa Gomez.
