COEUR D'ALENE, Idaho (AP) — A northern Idaho officer is in critical condition after being shot, and a suspect is in custody.
Authorities say Coeur d'Alene police Sgt. Greg Moore was shot around 1:30 a.m. Tuesday after checking on a suspicious individual in a neighborhood and is being treated at Kootenai Health in Coeur d'Alene.
Police say Jonathan Renfro shot the 16-year veteran of the Coeur d'Alene Police Department and then drove off in Moore's police car toward Post Falls.
Authorities say officers gave chase on Interstate 90 with speeds reaching 120 mph before Renfro abandoned the police car and fled on foot.
Officials say a police dog found Renfro hiding in the axle area of a truck near a Walmart in Post Falls and helped take Renfro into custody after he refused to cooperate.
