SARATOGA SPRINGS, Utah (AP) — A California man has been killed in a parasailing accident in Utah.

Utah County sheriff's deputies say 59-year-old Siegfried Muhlhauser of Murrieta was being towed behind a boat about 150 feet in the air Friday night when he fell into Utah Lake about 35 miles south of Salt Lake City.

He was under water for several minutes near Pelican Bay Marina on the lake's west shore before witnesses reached him and got him into a boat.

Efforts to revive Muhlhauser failed and he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Deputies say he was conducting drills to simulate in-flight emergencies at the time.

The cause of the 6 p.m. accident is under investigation.
